The Brigade School @ Mahadevapura
Annual Sports Meet 2023-24 [Grades 6-10]

On a beautiful Thursday morning, The Brigade Schools hosted their Annual Sports Meet for grades 6 to 10. Aishwarya Nair, a student from Std 8A, set the tone for the event with a warm welcome and a powerful quote by Liane Cardes: “Continuous effort — not strength or intelligence — is the key to unlocking our potential.” This quote echoed the school’s commitment to nurturing holistic development through sports.

The primary objective of The Brigade Schools’ Annual Sports Meet was to instil the spirit of sportsmanship and teamwork among the students. It was an occasion to emphasise the values of persistence, determination, and a never-give-up attitude.

The event commenced with the March Past, a display of discipline and unity. Ritansh Chauhan, a student from 10A, led the procession, proudly carrying the school flag. The symbolism behind the flag was inspiring: the orange square represented energy, optimism, and happiness, while the seagull embodied the soaring spirit, intellectual freedom, commitment, freedom, and hope. The contingents led by Aarini Barthwal of 10A, were students who have not only represented the school in various sporting events but have also brought home numerous gold medals.

The Torch Run, a traditional symbol of peace and friendship, marked the official beginning of the games. Ms. Suresh, the Principal of TBSW, ignited the torch, passing it on to Arul Garg of 8A. The torch continued its journey through Sai Shishir of 9A, Neev Sureka of 9A, and finally, Aarav Nayak of 10A. This ceremonial act embodied the spirit of unity and cooperation among students.

Mr. Cheria, the Administrator of Brigade Foundation, addressed the gathering with words that resonated deeply with the students, inspiring them to give their best effort in all their endeavours.

Tanvi Rao, a student from 9A, presented the day’s proceedings, after which the competitive events began. The 100-meter sprint, known for its explosive energy and speed, was divided into four categories: students of classes 6-7 and 8-10, for both boys and girls. The races were awe-inspiring, and the participants received well-deserved applause for their spectacular performances.

The Yoga Display was another highlight of the event. Yoga, a spiritual and scientific discipline, was showcased by students who demonstrated agility, balance, and sharp reflexes. They performed various yoga asanas and even created intricate pyramids. Dignitaries and parents were amazed at the students’ remarkable skills.

The much-anticipated Mixed Relay added an extra layer of excitement to the event. In this race, boys and girls from classes 6-7 and 8-10 joined forces to showcase their athletic abilities. The performance of the students left everyone impressed.

An interactive game called “Balancing the Ball” was organised for the parents, who participated enthusiastically. This added an element of fun and served as an eye-opener for students, highlighting the importance of participation over focusing solely on the result.

The winners were honoured for their achievements at the prize distribution ceremony. The Annual Sports Meet was officially closed, with Ms Suresh, the Principal, receiving the folded flag as a symbol of closure.

Chakrika Elluru from Std 7A delivered the vote of thanks, ending the session with a motivating quote by Herb Brooks: “You were born to be a player. You were meant to be here. This moment is yours.” This encapsulated the spirit of the Annual Sports Meet, reminding everyone that each moment in sports is an opportunity to shine.

In conclusion, The Brigade Schools’ Annual Sports Meet was a resounding success, emphasising the importance of sportsmanship, teamwork, and continuous effort in unlocking one’s potential.
