SYMPOSIUM ON WATER CONSERVATION – FLOWING FORWARD
The students of classes 9, 10, and 11 organised a comprehensive event on water conservation, highlighting the critical importance of preserving this vital resource. The event was a collaborative effort to raise awareness and propose solutions to water-related challenges, particularly in the city of Bengaluru.
The event commenced with a welcome speech. A cinematic trailer was showcased to introduce the topic of water conservation and the symposium’s title, “Flowing Forward”. The trailer effectively captured the audience’s attention, illustrating the severity of water scarcity and the need for immediate action. A group discussion followed, focusing on the causes of water depletion with particular emphasis on Bengaluru. Students explored various factors contributing to the water crisis, including overpopulation, industrialisation, and inefficient water management. The discussion was insightful and highlighted the need for sustainable practices.
A PowerPoint presentation was then delivered, which included case studies on water crises across the globe. Different measures taken up by these cities were presented. The major focus and message conveyed was the conservation of water, keeping the crisis that the city of Bangalore recently underwent, in focus. Traditional and modern practices of water conservation were showcased and possible solutions to tackle water scarcity were also discussed.
The presentation was enriched with videos, bringing real-life examples and expert opinions to the forefront. The means and measures taken up by the Brigade Metropolis Management Committee to conserve water were presented through an interview. Another interview with a lake reviver of Bengaluru provided insights into the practical steps taken to revive local lakes and the community’s role in such initiatives.
The event culminated in a debate on the motion “Technology can Avert Water Crisis,” moderated by an alumnus of TBSW. The debate was dynamic, with students presenting compelling arguments for and against the proposition. The discussion highlighted the potential of technological innovations in water management, as well as the limitations and challenges.
Throughout the event, various quizzes on water conservation were conducted, engaging the audience and reinforcing key concepts. Game counters on the theme of water conservation were also set up, providing an interactive and educational experience for attendees.
The event concluded with positive feedback from parents who attended, appreciating the students’ efforts and the informative nature of the programme. As a token of appreciation and to further promote water conservation, all attendees were given takeaways designed to encourage water conservation at their homes.
The event was a resounding success, effectively raising awareness and inspiring the community to take proactive steps towards water conservation.
