“Empowering Educators, One Sound at a Time!” – Jolly Phonics Workshop
A Jolly Phonics Workshop was held on 5 November 2025 at the MLR Convention Centre and was attended by the Curriculum Head and the pre-primary English teachers from all three of The Brigade Schools.
The programme opened with a warm welcome address by Ms Sen, Coordinator at The Brigade Schools, followed by the traditional lighting of the lamp, symbolising the beginning of an enlightening and inspiring learning experience.
Mr Christopher Jolly, founder of the Jolly Phonics programme, inaugurated the workshop with an insightful presentation on the concept, evolution and significance of Jolly Phonics in early education. He highlighted the vision and philosophy behind phonics- based learning and its transformative impact on young learners’ reading and writing abilities.
His address was followed by an engaging, hands-on session led by Ms Leena Nancy, an accredited Jolly Phonics trainer. She guided teachers through the five essential skills of the Jolly Phonics approach: letter sounds, digraphs, letter formation, blending, segmenting and tricky words. Her interactive demonstrations equipped teachers with practical strategies and creative techniques to make phonics learning both enjoyable and effective in the classroom.
After lunch, Ms Sheela conducted a comprehensive session on Jolly Literature, emphasising its classroom implementation and its role in strengthening early literacy skills among primary students.
The workshop concluded with Mr Christopher Jolly distributing certificates to all participants, marking the end of a rewarding and enriching professional development programme. The sessions left teachers inspired and empowered to integrate innovative phonics practices into their teaching.
