TBS Grade 2 Composite Science Activity – Layers of the Earth
As part of the curriculum, Grade 2 students had an exciting hands-on learning experience by creating a model of the Earth’s layers. Through this activity, they learned that the Earth is composed of four distinct layers and were able to identify and name each one, while also discovering simple facts about them.
The four layers are the crust, the mantle, the outer core, and the inner core. The crust is the outermost layer where people, plants, and animals live. Beneath the crust lies the mantle, which is extremely hot and made of melted rock. At the very centre of the Earth is the core, the hottest layer, which is made of metal.
By the end of the activity, students confidently named the layers of the Earth and described where each layer is found. This fun learning experience helped them understand how the layers of the Earth work together to make our planet unique and deepened their curiosity about the world around them.
