Workshop on the National Curriculum Framework by Dr. Sarada Chandrasekaran

Dr. Sarada Chandrasekaran is a distinguished educationist with over four decades of experience, including 30+ years as a Principal and Director in a premier institution in India. Her academic qualifications include an impressive array of degrees, including M.A., B.Ed., M. Phil, and an MBA in Entrepreneurial from ISB, complemented by an honorary doctorate in Ethical Learning.

Dr. Chandrasekaran’s contributions extend beyond education; she is a skilled storyteller and theatre artist. She is proficient in multiple Indian classical and Western dance forms.

All of her various attributes made the workshop on the National Curriculum Framework a very interesting one. Her explanation of the intricacies of the National Curriculum Framework (NCF), coupled with practical insights on its implementation in school education, was both engaging and enriching.

As educators, policymakers, and stakeholders, our involvement in shaping this framework is paramount. The National Curriculum Framework guides our educational system. It expresses our objective for our students and the educational methodologies that will enable their success in an ever-changing world.

Dr. Chandrasekaran explained the need for students to engage in problem-solving, and critical thinking skills and to build resilience. These core areas need to be emphasised within the curriculum.

Her detailed discussion of the practices to be followed in assessments gave the senior teachers a clearer understanding of how to evaluate comprehensively and make it student-centred. She spoke about incorporating art into the curriculum to nurture creativity and holistic development in our students.

Her emphasis on vocational training highlighted the importance of equipping students with practical skills for their future careers. Mrs. Chandrasekaran’s explanation of the language policy stressed the significance of multilingualism in promoting inclusivity and cultural awareness.
