Digital Detox – A Healthier Lifestyle

Are you often glued to your smartphone screen, scrolling aimlessly as time slips away? Studies show that about 61% of people are addicted to the internet and their screens. This can take a toll on the quality of life, especially for young students. That’s where digital detox comes in. Our students at The Brigade Schools had a Digital Detox workshop conducted by, Hapchi on the perils and dangers of the digital world.

During the session, the speakers informed the students about cyberbullying – an issue prevalent worldwide. Some forms of cyberbullying include exclusion from group chats, body shaming, doxxing (sharing someone’s private information without consent), impersonation, trolling, and cyberstalking. They also encouraged the students to use cyber security measures – using antivirus software, creating strong passwords, managing online interaction, recognising fake profiles, reducing screen time, and protecting privacy.

It was emphasised that some online predators pretend to be friendly to manipulate or harm others, with some even being adults over the age of thirty. The students were advised to be mindful of the hurtful messages posted by online bullies and to block and report them to trusted adults or school authorities. If the issue persists, they were encouraged to contact law enforcement authorities such as the Child Helpline (1098) or the Cyber Police (1930).

The session provided valuable insights and was very informative.
