Grade 10 SOCIAL SCIENCE ACTIVITY- WOOD BLOCK PRINTING

The students of Grade X participated in a hands-on activity where they explored the art of Woodblock Printing with natural dyes.

The aim of the activity was double-fold. It was meant to help young students:

a) Realise the importance of the traditional Indian art of woodblock printing using natural dyes

b) And to understand the history and significance of woodblock printing in Indian textiles.

They learnt about a similar Japanese style called “ukiyo” and drew a connection with the Korean Buddhist scriptures called Tripitaka Koreana, which was created using woodblock printing! History is indeed interesting.

This activity also sensitised the students towards the dangers of overusing artificial dyes and its negative environmental impacts.

It was an innovative activity where students recycled old materials such as t-shirts and tablecloths, and also explored their artistic streaks! They learnt how to use natural dyes such as turmeric, beetroot, and marigold flower petals. It was a fun way to create eco-friendly art and make sustainable choices.
