Activity /Metric Measurement

Name of the activity: Making a beam balance

A beam balance activity was conducted for grade 2 students to understand the concept of weight.

The activity was designed to help students understand the concept of weight and learn how objects can be compared using a beam balance. Guided step by step, students created a simple beam balance using a hanger, paper cups or plates, and threads.

Once their balances were ready, they placed different objects into the cups and keenly observed the movement, discovering that heavier objects move downward while lighter ones rise. Through this hands-on and enjoyable experience, students clearly understood how weight is measured and compared, making the concept both simple and memorable.
