MUSIC WORKSHOP – JACKFRUIT FESTIVAL
By Mr. VASU DIXIT AND TEAM IN COLLABORATION WITH IME AND TBSM
TOPIC – WRITING LYRICS, COMPOSING MUSIC
It was our privilege to have Mr Vasu Dixit and his team, in collaboration with the Indian Music Experience and The Brigade Schools, conduct a workshop on writing lyrics and composing music on the 24th and 25th of October.
Grades 4 to 8 were introduced to various kinds of music on the first day. Mr. Dixit showed the students one of his videos, “GURU” to give them an insight into music composition and songwriting. He also made them sing one of his Kannada compositions, “Ragi Tandira.” The students were encouraged to delve deeper into the lyrics.
On the second day, the students were divided into four groups and asked to write a song about anything that inspired them at that moment. The groups were then motivated to put a tune to their song. Mr. Dixit tuned the songs to peppy beats and good music and made the composers perform and record their numbers live.
The students appreciated the two-day workshop and found it inspiring and extremely enjoyable. They were encouraged to write songs from scratch, an entirely new and unbelievable experience for the students.
