Class 4 – Mathematics
Topic: Geometry – Circles (Mandala art)
Objective:
To learn about circles and their application in artwork. The relationship between radius and diameter. To help children develop creativity through Mandala Art by applying the concepts of geometry, symmetry, pattern, and colour.
Description of the activity:
Mandalas are a well-known form of art, a geometric design or pattern associated with symbols and shapes that represent the universe. In the ancient Sanskrit language of Hinduism and Buddhism, mandala means “circle”. Mandalas help improve the artistic skills and creativity of students. It is also felt that drawing mandalas makes one calmer and more focused.
Students created their mandalas in a classroom by following the steps explained by the teacher. Using their imagination and the principles of symmetry, repetition, pattern, and shape, they drew the elements for their masterpiece.
They actively participated in and enjoyed the activity. They felt very proud of their own Mandala Art. This Mandala Art can be used in various areas like making tea coasters, gifting envelopes, invitation cards, on the cover page of slam books, mehndi designs, decorating the house etc.
