Class: 4

Subject: Maths

Name of the activity : Paper folding activity – Parts of a circle

Objective : To learn to visualize the parts of a circle

Materials required :
1. Cut out of a circle of radius 5 cm
2. Color pencils / Sketch pens / pencils
3. Ruler

Details : The students brought the required materials to class to perform paper folding activity. The teacher demonstrated the paper folds by first folding the circle in to two halves. The crease line is marked as Diameter1 (d1). Again, the semicircle formed is folded in to two halves which gives another crease line of diameter2 (d2). Radius (r) is drawn and marked. Later, the chord is formed by folding a small portion of the paper accordingly.

Conclusion : Students learnt to visualize the parts of a circle through paper folding activity. This in turn helped them to visualize and highlight the crease line for different parts of a circle. Overall, students were thrilled to do this activity and enjoyed doing the same. This was a fun way of learning math in the classroom.
