Grade 5 – Shadow Detectives on the Case!
Grade 5 students transformed into curious shadow detectives as they explored the fascinating science of light and shadows through a hands-on activity. Armed with torchlights and everyday objects, they investigated how shadows change shape, size, and position when the light source is moved. The young learners observed that shadows can stretch, shrink, and shift depending on where the light is placed, making each discovery both exciting and memorable.
Through experimentation and observation, students uncovered an important scientific principle: shadows always form on the side opposite the light source. They also learned that the size of a shadow changes according to the angle of the Sun or the position of the light, helping them connect classroom concepts to the world around them.
The session concluded with an inspiring quote that brightened the learning experience:
“Keep your face always toward the sunshine—and shadows will fall behind you.”
It was a wonderful morning filled with science, curiosity, discovery, and inspiration.
