Grade 6 Biology – Getting to know plants- Understanding Absorption and Anchorage of Roots

Rooted in Discovery!

Who thought roots could steal the show?

Our inquisitive Grade 6 scientists got their hands muddy in an exciting Xperimentor session that unearthed more than just soil! Through planting and observing various seeds, they witnessed the magic of growth—tiny sprouts unfurling into lush greenery—and uncovered the secrets of tap roots and fibrous roots.

They learned that roots aren’t just anchors—they’re lifelines, absorbing water and nutrients vital to plant survival. And the twist? The clue to a plant’s root system wasn’t underground—it was on the leaves!

– Parallel venation = Fibrous roots
– Reticulate venation = Tap roots

This immersive, hands-on activity sowed curiosity and cultivated a newfound appreciation for nature’s quiet genius just below the surface.
