Grade 6 Activity Done in Class

Grade 6 students were introduced to the topic of South America, its culture and traditions.

In their Geography class, students brought terracotta pots, acrylic colours, paintbrushes, clay, and old newspapers. The students drew the image on the pot and later used clay to sculpt the nose and the mouth. They painted them using vibrant colours and left the pots to dry.

The activity’s objectives were to enable students to understand the pottery tradition at Pedra Pintada in Brazil, South America, the oldest known ceramics in the Americas. They also learnt to paint creatively on terracotta pots. The students were excited to do the activity and exhibited their creative and artistic skills while painting the images on the pots.
