Pre-primary – Comprehensive Training in Mathematics, Montessori education, and Composite Science
On March 28, 2024, the pre-primary teachers from all three branches of The Brigade Schools’, were trained by subject experts in Mathematics, Montessori education, Composite Science and Arts and Performing Arts.
The training sessions included innovative methodologies and tools to make classroom learning interactive. The sessions were to enhance learning for the students. Teachers participated enthusiastically and contributed to discussions at the end of each session.
The session began with the Place Value system utilising the innovative Place Value House. Following this, Mrs Kudva, Curriculum Head, Pre-primary, explained face value and place value and how to deliver the topic more effectively. She gave insights into addition and subtraction, explaining the significance of each sign. Later, there was an engaging discussion on the concept of time.
After a coffee break, Mrs Kudva showed the teachers an easy method of teaching Greater than, Lesser than, and equal using the captivating story of Numbergator. The importance of using phrases like Numbergator was explained in detail.
The session moved on to Art Performing Art (APA) topics, introducing artistic elements. Participants were shown 3D line art in circular and square forms and a demonstration of shading techniques. Teachers showcased their talents by actively engaging in all activities.
Post-lunch, teachers enjoyed singing and learning choreography to songs like Little Peter Rabbit and Animal Freeze Dance. Following these dances, the focus shifted to drawing a cat using palm prints, embellishing the body with concentric circles. Teachers learned a new art form, simple Warli drawings and shading techniques.
After another refreshing coffee break, discussions took place on Montessori education – the effective use of puzzles in composite science and Montessori teaching. Following this, one-on-one sessions took place on effective storytelling techniques.
Ms. Kudva demonstrated the states of matter using everyday materials and hands-on experiments. The backbone, in the chapter Vertebrates & Invertebrates, was explained with the help of a beading activity. Finally, through diagrams and discussions, volcanic eruptions were simplified.
The teachers enjoyed the session and look forward to using what they have learnt.
