Building Skills, Confidence and Curiosity – January 2026
(UKG)
A blend of life skills, academics, creativity and scientific exploration is how January started off for the UKG students at the Brigade School.
For their Value Education class, the students prepared their own sandwich rolls. This activity was called “How to Make a Sandwich”. The main aim of this was to boost confidence and teach them self-reliance.
Visual aids like the Addition Strip Board with colourful flowers helped the students learn basic addition in Montessori.
The students explored the concepts of patterns, symmetry and design through Mandala Art sessions which was introduced to them this month. This enhanced their focus and helped them express themselves artistically.
Maths was made fun through the Alligator Puppet activity, which not only strengthened their mathematical concepts but also made learning more playful and memorable.
The students learnt the difference between vertebrates and invertebrates in their Composite Science class using picture-based sorting activities. This helped them observe, categorise, and apply scientific thinking as much as they could, based on the age that they are at.
In January, we also celebrated Sankranti, which helped the students learn about the harvest festival. During the festival they also expressed their understanding of the festival through various colouring activities.
These wide range of activities were planned keeping a holistic development of the students in mind. This made January a month of creative learning and fun participation for the UKG students.
