MSA DAY Literary Activity
Kabuliwala by Rabindranath Tagore

On August 22nd, 2023, the talented seventh-graders of The Brigade School in JP Nagar conducted “Mind Space Activity,” a Literary Activity that revolved around the timeless short story “Kabuliwala.”

This event was conducted to ignite a passion for reading in all three languages: Kannada, Hindi, and English, fostering a multilingual literary journey.

With boundless creativity, the students embarked on an enthralling journey through Rabindranath Tagore’s “Kabuliwala.” They breathed life into the characters through their excellent acting, which showcased their profound understanding of the narrative.

The festivities commenced with a soul-stirring rendition of Tagore’s masterpiece, “Where the Mind is Without Fear,” delivered first in its original Bengali form and then in English. These verses resonated deeply, evoking memories of India’s struggle for independence under British colonial rule.

To delve into the brilliance of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, the students conducted an imaginative interview with the literary genius. It gave us a glimpse of his profound thoughts and ideas.

The students then took center stage to perform a multilingual adaptation of “Kabuliwala” in Kannada, Hindi, and English, skilfully portraying the pivotal transformations in the characters’ lives. This immersive presentation left an indelible impression on the audience.

The performance was punctuated by the stirring strains of “Eklo Chalo Re,” passionately sung by the students. This musical interlude was followed by an interactive Santhali folk dance, fostering cultural unity and celebrating diversity.

To tantalise the taste buds and provide an immersive experience of Bengali culture, authentic Bengali cuisine stalls graced the hall. Educational game stalls, including classics like hopscotch and a delightful spice sorting challenge, added a fun and informative dimension to the event, enriching the learning experience.

Parents enthusiastically joined the festivities, dancing alongside their children and savouring the delicious culinary offerings. The event was a testament to the power of education in igniting young minds, fostering a love for languages, and bringing communities together in joyful harmony.

The students not only brought “Kabuliwala” to life but nurtured a lifelong appreciation for the written word.
