Sandwich Making Activity – Class: 5

Subject: English -Direct and Indirect Speech

At the end of January, an activity was conducted in Class 5 as part of their English Grammar curriculum, based on Direct and Indirect Speech. The objectives of the “Sandwich Activity,” were to teach the children about the components of Direct Speech and to familiarise them with punctuating Direct Speech sentences correctly. Drawing comparisons between the making of a sandwich and the structure of Direct Speech, the activity highlighted how just as the slices of bread and fillings are essential components of a sandwich, elements like punctuation, exact words, and inverted commas are crucial to Direct Speech.

The students participated with enthusiasm, gaining insights into the importance of Direct Speech, and knowing they could eat their yummy sandwich at the end of the activity was a bonus to an exciting class!
