National Science Day Celebration – Grade 6 Mind Space Activity

In the words of Sir C.V. Raman, “Science is a language that transcends boundaries.”

So, this National Science Day, observed on February 28, The Brigade School, one of the well-known schools in Bangalore and among the reputed CBSE schools in Bangalore, commemorated Sir C. V. Raman’s discovery of the Raman Effect in 1928. An achievement that earned India a Nobel Prize.

The Grade 6 students across The Brigade Schools, marked the occasion through an eye-catching Mind Space Activity that blended learning with creativity.

The programme started with an introduction to the significance of the day; students then presented a series of engaging experiments.

A simple yet fascinating demonstration threw light on the concept of density, just by using an orange. The students demonstrated how an unpeeled orange floats due to trapped air, while a peeled one sinks.

The event went on to explain even more science concepts which included explaining how one-fifth of air is oxygen and liquid pressure increases with depth. Even Newton’s Third Law of Motion was brought to life by the students. “Women in Science: Catalysing Viksit Bharat,” was also made part of this celebration, drawing attention to the contributions of Indian women scientists and their role in shaping the future.

Apart from just demonstrations, an interactive quiz was also conducted that added energy to the programme. All the students participated with a lot of zeal which in-turn proved that the experiments and demonstrations did help them learn more about science.

After that the students proceeded to learn more about the human organ systems through a creative fashion show. The show demonstrates the functions and importance of different organs in a unique and engaging manner.

This entire Science Day celebration at The Brigade School, which is one of the leading CBSE schools in Bangalore went beyond just serving as a reminder that science is present in every question. It left the students with a renewed sense of curiosity to think beyond the obvious.
