The Legend of the Persian Carpet
Storytelling Session by Katharangamfor UKG Students
A story stays with the children much longer than facts as it is a never-ending journey of learning and understanding about the world around us. To foster listening and reading skills, a storytelling session by Ms. Shreya Biswas, an exceedingly vivacious storyteller from Katharangam, was organised for the little ones of UKG. The story narrated today was called The Legend of the Persian Carpet and introduced the children to our theme of the year, Persian Culture.
Her storytelling skills revealed that storytelling is a shared experience in which the audience is just as active a participant as the storyteller. She kindled enthusiasm among the children by encouraging them to sing, follow her actions, and interact with her. She took them on an enchanting carpet ride through the palace of King Balash.
The warmth in the way she narrated the stories drew the children into a magical world, leaving them spellbound and asking for more. Listening with rapt attention, they learnt the basics of theatrical movements, voice modulation, and the art of storytelling.
This session aimed to give children an insight into Persian Culture, develop their language skills, and expand their imagination.
