Dental health education at schools have a positive impact on dental knowledge, oral hygiene practices and all-round oral health of children.

There is a definite need for high-quality dental health education in schools. School not only provides an important platform for learning but also ingrains health and health-related issues in students’ minds. Teaching dental health care practices to young children pays lifelong dividends. Oral health camps have become an integral part of our school curriculum.

The Brigade School@ Malleswaram organised an online session on oral hygiene for their Std 1 students, conducted by Dr Divya Arora, a dentist from Delhi. In a learning environment that is curriculum and student-centric, The Dental Hygiene Program educates students on oral health care and teaches them oral practices that are specific and highly beneficial.

Dr Arora has completed her BDS from Modern Dental College, Indore. She has more than ten years of experience in general dentistry and is a former resident of Sir Gangaram Hospital Delhi. Currently, she runs a dental clinic in Delhi.

Dr Arora spoke on many points of oral care and stressed on the following topics:

  • Importance of baby teeth
  • Importance of adult teeth


Good oral habits like:

  • To brush their teeth twice every day for 2 minutes
  • To rinse their mouth after each meal to kill harmful bacteria
  • To avoid sticky foods
  • To visit a dentist once in 6 months
  • The causes of tooth decay & the stages of tooth decay.


She also spoke about dental-friendly foods like fruits, vegetables & grains promoting healthy eating habits, vital to a good dental and overall health in children.

Children who establish good oral hygiene habits at a young age experience fewer dental problems in life, maintain a positive self-image and perform better in school.
