A field trip to Vama Resort
As the saying goes “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”, and so our school makes it a point to take us on educational field trips every year. These field trips provide a base for educational and hands-on learning. This year our school took us to Vama Resort near Nandi Hills on July 16, 2024. A few of our school teachers accompanied us on our trip. We were expected to be in school by 7:15 am and started our journey by 7:30 am.
When we arrived at our destination we were greeted by army officials. They guided us to the breakfast counter with a wide variety of choices. After the students had enjoyed the scrumptious meals, a brief introduction was given by the army officials and the head of the resort who was a colonel himself. The students were excited to begin with the agenda. We first started with an obstacle course. The first obstacle was climbing a ladder, walking a tightrope, and ferrying away to the ground using the zipline. This obstacle challenged the students to be brave, particularly those who feared heights. Once we reached the ground, we were instructed to swing over a ditch and swing through a suspended car wheel. After that, we were expected to kneel and pass through a mesh using our arms to push through. Once we reached the opposite end, we continued with smaller obstacles until we were instructed to climb a cargo net and cross over to the other side. The instructors also showed us how to jump over walls and soon, in the blink of an eye, we had finished the obstacle course.
The instructor further explained that the obstacle course was an interactive way of learning many survival skills and was a basic requirement that was taught in the army. After this, we participated in team-building activities and though it appeared to be strenuous, we worked cohesively and achieved the goal.
For lunch, we were provided with a nutritious meal. Then, we engaged in more activities and games as a group. And after a long but exhilarating day, it was time for our departure.
The day was filled with joy and excitement. This field trip taught us so many lessons, values, and skills. Therefore, I am very grateful to our school for always hosting these experiential learning programmes every year and to the teachers accompanying us for our safety. There are numerous benefits of field trips. It provides a great bonding experience between students and teachers. It has proven to have a great impact on academic performance and helps the students to socialize more. It also encouraged critical thinking and above all many memories have been created, which I will cherish forever.
