TBSG Mind Space Activity Day – 2024-2025 – The Brigade School @ Malleswaram

The students of LKG and UKG at The Brigade School, Malleswaram, participated in the Mind Space Activity Day held on 23 and 24 January 2025. The students of LKG and UKG performed and presented the curriculum they learnt at school. They showcased a variety of activities across different subjects, including English, Composite Science, Montessori, Art, and Performing Arts.

English

Children recited the poem Arctic Adventures, which described an exciting journey of the icy and mysterious Arctic. Children wore headgear to display the characters. The characters were a polar bear, an owl, a penguin, a seal, a wolf, and snowflakes.

Children read the play from the book entitled “Room on the Broom” by Julia Donaldson. Children wore headgear to represent the characters. The characters were a dog, a bird, a witch, a frog, a dragon and four narrators.

Children from LKG and UKG exhibited concepts they learnt in class (crossword, blend and write the words, picture composition etc). UKG children read yellow books and newspapers. Parents participated in a few activities. They received takeaways for their participation.

Composite Science:

Children started Composite Science activities by identifying all seven continents on the map. Children spoke about the flora and fauna in Asia, Africa, North and South America, Australia, and Europe. Children highlighted the traditions and culture of a few continents by wearing the traditional attire of the respective continents. They demonstrated how to bake a pizza, a takeaway for the parents who participated in the event. Children named five oceans and defined land and water forms. The students explained the parts of a plant, leaf, flower, fruit, and frog to their parents. They also differentiated between vertebrates, invertebrates, and classes of vertebrates.

Montessori

Children participated in sensorial activities designed to refine their perception of size, dimension, and order. Using materials like Cylinder Blocks, they explored differences in diameter and depth, while the Pink Tower helped them distinguish variations in size and develop fine motor skills. These hands-on experiences enhanced their ability to classify, compare, and build spatial awareness.

In mathematics, children explored foundational concepts of addition and multiplication through hands-on materials. They demonstrated the concept of repeated addition (multiplication) and connected abstract ideas to concrete tools. Activities like arranging Number Rods to form combinations of 10 helped solidify their understanding of numerical relationships and the decimal system.

Parents actively participated in some activities and received takeaways to support learning at home.

Art and Performing Arts

Children enthusiastically participated in dance and music. Children grooved to the beats of the “Skeleton dance” and entertained parents with Kannada, Hindi and English songs. Parents enjoyed decorating Persian-themed carpets, lamps and vases using the supplies given to them.

Parents were awestruck watching and listening to their children present and perform with poise and panache.
