“Yoga does not just change the way we see things; it transforms the person who sees.― B.K.S Iyengar

Ms. Bhavana N, a Yoga teacher at The Brigade School, Malleswaram started her journey in dance when she was eight years old. She was very passionate about dancing and went on to complete her Master’s degree in Bharatanatyam. At the university, she got an opportunity to take up a postgraduate diploma in Yoga along with her master’s degree.

PG Diploma in Yoga Studies at Bangalore University (2019-2020) and a Yoga Instructors Course from Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana University, saw her looking at Yoga as a career.

She participated in the Karnataka State Yogasana Sports Championship and bagged three prizes.

We asked Bhavna a few questions, and she was delighted to answer them all.

Q1. What made you enter the State level competition?
I have participated in several dance competitions and won prizes as part of a team and as a soloist. However, I have never entered any Yoga competitions since I felt Yoga was more for my health.
My Yoga teacher, Sri Ganesh Acharya, insisted I participate in the Karnataka State Yogasana Sports Championship. He said this would help me accomplish my future goal of being a yoga therapist. As the certificate for participating in this competition has great value and importance, I decided to take up this championship.

Q2. What are your favourite hobbies/ things you enjoy doing?
Teaching the children at school, at summer camps, and helping the elders with their health issues have been a few of her favourite things to do

Q3. How did you feel when you medalwon?
There were five events in the championship, I participated in three events and won:
  • – Artistic Yogasana Single – Silver medal
  • – Artistic Yogasana Pair – Gold medal
  • – Rhythmic Yogasana Pair – Gold
The discipline, practice, and effort put in by me, my teacher, and my parents were all worth it. It was a rewarding experience, especially when I bagged the medals

Q4.What are your expectations in the final round?
More than winning the medals, the happiest feeling was getting selected for the National level competition in Mumbai in November 2022. I hope this journey leads to success.
